Happy Summer! Whether it's baseball
games,
barbecues, or the beach, your summer
calendar is probably already filling up with your
favorite warm-weather activities. Although UCC
traditionally spends much of its time and
energy on public safety and neighborhood
improvement, we have begun to participate
in some new events that allow us to meet
residents from different corners of the
neighborhood. What better time to do that
than in summer?
Here is just a sampling of
some of the fun and educational (and both!)
activities we've been involved in:
-- A free book exchange at Nick's
Uptown on
May 31, where participants could bring up to
15 books. About 500 of your book-loving
neighbors attended!
-- A free seminar on women and investing
on
June 6 at Bridgeview Bank. Attendees of all
ages learned more about the steps they
should take to build and protect their
retirement savings.
-- And coming up on June 21 -- a joint
block
party at Nick's on Wilson, from 6 pm. to
9pm.
$20 includes your annual block club
membership fee and two drinks. UCC is not a
sponsor of this event, but we encourage
everyone in the block clubs south of Lawrence
Ave. to attend!
Look for more outreach from UCC in the
months ahead as we seek to find new ways to
build a stronger, diverse and dedicated
neighborhood organization.
I welcome your suggestions, and look forward
to seeing you in the neighborhood!
- Kathy Cook, UCC President
