Saving gay bar falls 3 votes short

A bill designed to help Big Chicks, a predominantly gay bar in Uptown threatened with closing because it violates state law by operating within 100 feet of a synagogue, did not muster enough support Friday in the House. Illinois law prohibits taverns within 100 feet of schools, hospitals and houses of worship. The bill would change the 100-foot rule to apply only to the main entrance rather than any part of the building.
