Just as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve, Courtlynn Kim Phan became the first baby born in Chicago in 2004, beating a baby born at another hospital by only a minute, doctors at Weiss Memorial Hospital said Thursday. The mother, Jenny Phan, 32, gave birth to the 6-pound 14-ounce girl as her husband, Jimmy, 40, stood at her side in the delivery room. Mother and daughter were in good condition at the hospital on New Year's Day, doctors said.
